Winter, My Blue Bubble of Bliss

For the majority of North Americas, wintertime brings to mind snow boots, down jackets, long underwear and scarves, but if you live in South Florida wintertime is bikini season. From late October through April South Florida boasts blue skies, warm days, cool nights, and waves!! Cold fronts bring gusty NW winds that generate swells traveling eastward towards the Bahamas. These swells get diverted over the shallow Bahama Banks and head back towards the Florida coastline (hence the name refraction swell) creating super clean conditions with clear blue skies and turquoise water. There are times when I feel like I'm in a giant blue bubble of bliss. Daytime air temps fluctuate from the low to mid 70's and the Atlantic Ocean is just about the same. In other words, the perfect setting to rock a bikini and be at the beach all day. I will admit that Florida does get it's fair share of wetsuit weather mixed in with this dreamy season, and by fair share I mean one or two days, which sounds pretty fair to me. So here's to the magical months ahead that also bring man-o-war, spinner sharks, manatees that like to sneak up on you and disguise themselves as spinner sharks, mega yachts, bon fires, fewer mosquitos, snowbirds, tan skin, sun-bleached hair, crystal clear sandbars and best of all refraction swells. Cheers!
